"Why a new journal?"

A new generation of Armenians is emerging in a rapidly evolving world. There is a thirst for in-depth information, knowledgeable analysis, and fresh perspectives addressing new sets of questions:

  • What is the cultural and political context of the Armenian Church’s refusal to ordain women? What are its current implications?
  • Where is the civil war in Turkey leading? What does the provisional constitution of the Kurdish Federal Republic mean for Armenians?
  • Does the Western Armenian language have a future?
  • What are the ramifications of loans to the Republic of Armenia from the International Monetary Fund?
  • How is Armenian identity being defined and developed in the contemporary Lebanese-Armenian community?
  • How will campaign finance reform affect the Armenian lobby in the United States?
  • What energy sources are available in the Armenian republic? How are they being developed?

Many people are grappling with questions like these. Talented specialists studying these issues have no forum in which to report on their research and their conclusions. The Armenian public has nowhere to find such critical information that goes to the very core of its identity. More than ever, Armenian communities need an independent journal of ideas—one that deals in a thoughtful, constructive, and well-documented manner with modern and contemporary affairs.

For all our wealth of periodicals, we do not have an Armenian Tikkun, a Wilson Quarterly, or a Dissent. Thus, Armenian Forum fills an important void.
