Germany and
the Armenian Genocide
Paul Leverkuehn,
A German Officer during the Armenian
Genocide:
A Biography of Max von Scheubner-Richter
One of the central debates concerning Hitler
and the Armenian Genocide revolves around the role of Max von Scheubner-Richter
who witnessed the Armenian Genocide in Erzurum (Ottoman Turkey) in 1915 and
later became and co-founder of the National Socialist (Nazi) Party in
Germany. This work answers some vexing questions
about the Armenian Genocide and Hitler's Nazi Germany.

THE LOST ARMENIAN COMMUNITIES OF OTTOMAN TURKEY
Rediscovering
Armenian Bardizag (Bahchejik) in Western Turkey
Ara
Melkonian delivered the inaugural lecture for the new Gomidas Institute
series, “The Lost Armenian Communities of Ottoman Turkey,” with a moving
presentation on his ancestral village of Bardizag (Bahcejik), off the Gulf
of Izmid, in western Turkey. Starting from his written sources, Melkonian’s
gave a moving presentation, tracing the origins of the village to Sivas and
Agn, and even further back to Vasbouragan. Most of the talk concentrated on
the past 300 years of the village’s development as a commercial, touristic
and educational centre.
Melkonian’s talk also included photographs of what little had remained of
the village by the 1960s, when the speaker visited and recorded what little
remained of the former Armenian village.

Most modern commentators on the Middle East are not aware
of the systematic manner in which modern Turkey was created as the homeland
exclusively of "Anatolian Turks." The current Turkish preponderance in
Modern Turkey was created through acts of Genocide against Armenians and
Greeks between 1915 and 1923, and against Kurds thereafter. In many
ways, the founders of modern Turkey were pioneers in using genocide as a
principal means to forge a new nation-state. Two talks, by Ara
Sarafian and Hilmar Kaiser, address the systematic nature of the Armenian
Genocide, including the present-day denial of that genocidal act. They
also address the British connection, as Great Britain became the first state
to recognise the Armenian Genocide in 1916.
