| Historians Ara Sarafian and
Vincent Lima will discuss the politics of the Armenian Genocide in a lecture in White
Plains on Friday, 1 December 2000, at 8:00 P.M. There will be a reception
at 7:30 P.M. The title of the talk is "History and Power: Politics of the Armenian Genocide." It will take place at Saint Gregory the Enlightener Armenian Church, 1131 North St., White Plains, Exit 25 off the Hutchinson River Parkway. The speakers, editors of the acclaimed journal Armenian Forum, will look critically at the efforts of Armenian communities to secure recognition of the Armenian Genocide. In this context, they will discuss historical research and the types of arguments used by those who deny the Genocide. Sarafian is general editor of Gomidas Institute Books. He has done extensive research in Ottoman archives in Turkey. In a recent issue of Armenian Forum, he reported on documents he found there that confirm Western accounts of the Armenian Genocide. (The article is available online at <http://www.gomidas.org/forum/af5d.htm>.) Lima is director of the Gomidas Institute. During the talk, Sarafian and Lima will introduce the most recent publications in the Gomidas Institute's Armenian Genocide Documentation Series, including a color map of the Genocide.
